The country’s largest public sector bank, State Bank of India (SBI) is providing free insurance of Rs 2 lakh to those customers who have opened an account under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana.
To avail the benefits of this insurance, customers will have to open an account with SBI under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana.
Currently, only those customers are getting the benefit who have opened accounts before 28 August 2018. Those who have applied for RuPay PMJDY card are getting the benefit of this scheme.
Customers whose Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) account has been opened till August 28, 2018 will get an insurance cover of up to Rs 1 lakh on the RuPay PMJDY card issued. Whereas, accidental cover benefit of up to Rs 2 lakh will be available on RuPay cards issued after August 28, 2018.
How to get benefit
To get accidental insurance benefits, the nominee has to fill a form by attaching the death certificate of the person. Along with this, a copy of the FIR of the accident, post mortem report, FSL report and a copy of the Aadhar card of the deceased will have to be submitted.
Jan Dhan account holders will get the benefit of accidental death insurance under RuPay Debit Card only when the claim has to be made within 90 days from the date of accident.
The name of the nominee has to be submitted along with bank details and a copy of the passbook. Let us tell you that Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana was started in the year 2014.
